Almaty, November 12 (Xinhua) — The Senate (the upper house of parliament) of Kazakhstan approved 22 roadmaps outlining technological and compensatory measures to reduce pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions at energy facilities. This was reported on Wednesday by the Kazinform news agency, citing Vice Minister of Energy Bakytzhan Ilyas.
The roadmaps are aimed at reducing the harm from facilities that have a significant negative impact on the environment. The Ministry of Energy is also working to implement carbon capture, use, and storage technologies, as well as to reduce methane emissions.
The National Carbon Credit Allocation Plan for 2022–2025 envisages an annual emission reduction of 1.5 percent. The draft new plan for 2026–2030 envisages an emission reduction of 10.2–22.9 percent from 2025 levels.
B. Ilyas emphasized that the development of a carbon regulation system will allow Kazakhstan to fulfill its international obligations under the Paris Agreement, as well as improve the energy efficiency and environmental safety of the economy. –0–
