URUMQI, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — The 2025 Silk Road Friendship Cup invitational weiqi (go) tournament concluded in Kashgar, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Tuesday. Six teams from China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Singapore competed in a five-round team format, with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region team winning five of its five matches.

Among the 18 young players who participated in the competition, the youngest participant was 9-year-old Wang Yuhao from Bachu County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang.

Organizers also organized cultural exchange events, such as a visit to the ancient city of Kashgar, which allowed tournament participants from different countries to experience the historical heritage and new face of this ancient city on the Great Silk Road.

Speaking at the Cup's closing ceremony, Chang Hao, Chairman of the China Weiqi Association, noted that the ancient board game "weiqi" is not only the quintessence of wisdom but also a messenger of civilization. Holding such a tournament in Kashgar—an important hub on the ancient Silk Road—was a tribute to the millennia-old spirit of the Silk Road and a vivid illustration of Kashgar's unique role in Xinjiang's cultural and sporting development in the modern era.

The event was jointly organized by the China Weiqi Association, the Shanghai Municipal Sports Administration, the Kashgar Prefectural Government, and the Shanghai Headquarters for Assistance to Xinjiang. -0-
