Shanghai, November 10 (Xinhua) — "This is our third trip to the China International Import Expo (CIIE)," said Lali Manasherova, CEO of the Georgian wine company Paradais, while presenting a famous Georgian wine in clay bottles.

The 8th CIIE is taking place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, bringing together over 4,000 distributors from 150 countries and regions. It's worth noting that Georgia is participating for the first time as a guest of honor.

As L. Manasherova explained, wine in clay bottles is a unique drink that embodies Georgia's centuries-old winemaking traditions.

"Clay bottles containing the drink come in a variety of shapes. They can be decorated with relief patterns, painted, shaped like figurines, ancient amphoras, and jugs, reminiscent of the handicrafts of folk artists," she said, noting that wine in clay bottles is distinguished by its attractive appearance, which immediately evokes the culture and way of life of the country.

L. Manasherova was absent from the exhibition from 2020 to 2024, but she decided to return this year. "The growing Chinese market is very attractive. I see enormous potential here," L. Manasherova said.

According to her, compared to European wine brands, Georgian wine is likely less well-known. "But the Import Expo allows us to showcase our products and creates opportunities to expand our presence in the growing Chinese market," she added.

As Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, noted, participation in the CIIE will ensure growth in Georgian exports to the Chinese market.

“As part of the exhibition, we will be able to introduce Georgian products to local Chinese companies, as well as the private sector,” she explained, adding that all this will strengthen the position of our entrepreneurs and expand the possibilities for producing Georgian products. –0–
