Beijing, November 9 (Xinhua) — The new snow season is currently beginning in many areas of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR). Ski resorts in Urumqi, Altay County, and the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture have begun making artificial snow, preparing to open to guests.

According to the news portal chinanews.com.cn, at the famous Jiangjunshan International Ski Resort in the Altay County, approximately 100 snow cannons are producing snow 24 hours a day. The resort's deputy general manager, Chen Yang, said, "We plan to launch test skiing around November 15 and will try to open early, depending on weather conditions, to accommodate the needs of the majority of tourists."

However, at some ski resorts in the XUAR, skiers have already been allowed to test their skills in advance.

"Today I got the long-awaited experience of ice and snow skiing in Xinjiang. The snowy landscapes here are beautiful, and the skiing conditions are excellent," said Alexander Ivanov, a young tourist from Russia, who realized his dream on Saturday at the Silk Road Mountain Resort.

"Unlike previous ski seasons, to accommodate the needs of most tourists for early access, this year, for the first time, we opened the slopes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced skiers simultaneously, and also opened the night ski area for the first time on test day. Ski enthusiasts can ski peacefully from morning until evening," said Zhuang Hong, Marketing Manager at Silk Road Mountain Resort.

During the last snow season, standard ski resorts in Xinjiang received more than 3.57 million tourists, up 10.22 percent year-on-year, and generated tourism revenue of 844 million yuan, up 39.13 percent year-on-year.

On November 14, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) will launch a consumer voucher program to stimulate winter tourism during the snowy season, the local Department of Culture and Tourism announced. A total of 10,000 vouchers, each worth 20 yuan (approximately $2.82), will be valid for use at 11 ski resorts in the region with a 4S rating or higher, covering popular winter destinations such as Urumqi, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, and Altay Prefecture. -0-
