During the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, a china.org.cn journalist interviewed Ainur Sultanalievna Amirbekova, PhD, Deputy General Director of QazTrade, a single operator for export development under the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan.

Ainur Sultanalieva noted that Kazakhstan has been participating in CIIE since 2018 and has been showcasing its products for eight years in a row. This year, Kazakhstani products are showcased across four exhibition venues, and the number of participating companies exceeded 100—a record for the country's participation in the exhibition.

"Together with the National Association of Cooperatives of Kazakhstan (NACOFEC), QazTrade has reached an agreement with China Coop, China's largest cooperative chain, which comprises over 340,000 stores across the country. Kazakhstani honey, kumys, shubat, and confectionery will soon appear on Chinese store shelves. The chain's annual turnover exceeds 7 trillion yuan, opening up significant opportunities for our suppliers," she said.

According to Ainur Sultanalieva, the exhibition presents "Kazakhstan's agro-industrial showcase"—products that reflect the purity of nature, a commitment to health, and a commitment to innovation. Among the key categories, she highlighted dairy products, including natural ice cream and dried camel milk, flour and pasta, healthy nutrition products made from chickpeas, flax, and other grains, as well as confectionery—candies, marmalade, and fruit snacks made from natural ingredients with a national flavor and modern packaging design.

The oil and fat industry is particularly important. In 2024, Kazakhstan's agricultural exports reached $5.1 billion, of which processed goods accounted for 52%. The oil and fat sector accounted for a quarter of this volume. Kazakhstan is among the world's top ten sunflower oil exporters, ranking 8th, with a forecast to rise to 6th. The country is a major supplier of vegetable oils and meal in Central Asia, fully satisfying the region's needs for sunflower meal and cake.

Answering a question about the significance of the CIIE, Ainur Sultanalieva emphasized that over the years, the exhibition has become one of the key global platforms shaping the development of international trade and investment. "By 2025, the CIIE has gone far beyond its traditional exhibition activities. It has become a tool for economic dialogue, mutual trust, and sustainable partnership between China and the rest of the world," she noted.

According to her, the CIIE promotes the balanced development of China's foreign trade within the framework of the "new model of an open economy," shifting from an export-oriented approach to stimulating imports and domestic demand. This makes the exhibition an important tool for modernizing consumption patterns and stimulating innovative growth in the country.

Ainur Sultanalieva emphasized that the CIIE is particularly important for developing economies, providing them with opportunities to promote their products and participate in global trade. This approach promotes a more equitable and inclusive development of global trade and strengthens the position of small economies on the international stage.

She also noted the successes of Kazakh-Chinese trade and economic relations: "Kazakhstan's exports to China in 2024 amounted to $15.8 billion, and the total trade turnover between the countries reached $30.2 billion."

CIIE 2025 is not just the largest import expo but also a platform that reflects China's commitment to openness, innovation, and win-win development. The expo showcases products, builds trust, creates new growth areas for the global economy, and supports global connectivity in a changing world.
