Washington, November 9 (Xinhua) — Americans are largely dissatisfied with both political parties, viewing them as too radical and not governing fairly enough, according to a new Pew Research Center poll conducted ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

According to a poll of 3,445 American adults conducted in late September, only 39 percent of respondents believe the Republican Party governs ethically and fairly, while 42 percent say the same about the Democratic Party. A majority of respondents consider both parties too radical: 61 percent of respondents consider Republicans and 57 percent of Democrats to be too radical.

Public disillusionment is widespread: roughly half of Americans say they feel anger at either party, while just over a third feel hopeful about the Republican Party. Only 28 percent of respondents believe the Democratic Party gives them hope.

The deepest discontent is among Democrats and independents on the left, who are disillusioned not only with the Republicans who control the White House and both houses of Congress, but also with their own party.

Sixty-seven percent of Democrats say they are disappointed with their party, significantly higher than in 2021 and 2019, when the figure was about half. Among them, 41 percent cite the party's inability to provide sufficient resistance to the Trump administration as the main reason.
