TEHRAN, November 8 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Friday that the United States should be held accountable for its "direct involvement" in Israeli airstrikes on Iran in June.

In his social media post, X E. Baghaei responded to US President Donald Trump's statements on Thursday, who claimed he was "largely responsible" for Israel's initial strike on Iran. This assertion contradicts Washington's earlier claims that Israel acted alone.

"Israel attacked first. It was a very, very powerful attack. I was largely responsible for that," Trump told reporters at the White House.

E. Baghaei cited US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statements on June 13, when he denied US involvement in the strikes and called them "unilateral" Israeli actions. Baghaei called this statement "an outright lie."

"It was clear from the very beginning that the United States was a full participant in the crime of Israeli aggression against the Iranian people," he said, calling on Washington to be held accountable for "this flagrant violation and monstrous injustice."

On June 13, Israel launched massive airstrikes against several Iranian targets, including nuclear and military ones, killing senior commanders, scientists, and civilians, according to Iranian officials. Iran responded with a series of missile and drone strikes against Israel.

On June 22, US forces struck Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. On June 24, after 12 days of fighting between Iran and Israel, a ceasefire went into effect.
