Jakarta, November 7 (Xinhua) – Fifty-four people were injured in an explosion during Friday prayers at a mosque inside a school in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, city police chief Asep Edi Suheri said.

An explosion occurred around midday on Friday at a mosque located on the grounds of a naval base in North Jakarta. Police said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred in the rear of the mosque's main hall. Police and naval personnel immediately cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal experts conducted a full search of the scene.

Initial investigations indicate that the explosion may have been caused by a short circuit or a malfunctioning electronic device. –0–
