URUMQI, November 7 (Xinhua) — Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will launch a consumer voucher program on November 14 to stimulate winter tourism during the snowy season, the local Department of Culture and Tourism announced on Thursday.

A total of 10,000 vouchers with a face value of 20 yuan (about $2.82) each will be valid for use at 11 ski resorts in the region rated 4S and above, covering popular winter destinations such as Urumqi, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture and Altay County, the department said.

Vouchers are valid for ski passes (ski pass cards) worth 100 yuan or more. Skiers can redeem vouchers through a WeChat mini-program.

Renowned for its long snow season and high snow quality, Xinjiang has developed a comprehensive winter tourism system that combines skiing, snow-capped landscapes, and local culture.

During the last snow season, standard ski resorts in Xinjiang received about 3.57 million tourists, up 10.22 percent year-on-year, and generated tourism revenue of 844 million yuan, up 39.13 percent year-on-year.

Li Meng, a representative of the aforementioned department, said that the voucher program will run until February 2026. It is aimed at stimulating spending on winter sports and promoting high-quality development of the winter tourism sector in the region. -0-
