HANGZHOU, November 7 (Xinhua) — The 2025 World Internet Conference (WIC) Science and Technology Awards ceremony was held in Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Thursday. Seventeen international projects received awards for breakthroughs in cutting-edge fields.
The winning projects span cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence models, the intelligent internet of things, embodied intelligence, and quantum computing. They included Microsoft's GitHub Copilot coding agent, Alibaba's open-source Qwen baseline model, and key technologies and signal applications from China's BeiDou Satellite System-3 (BDS-3).
The 2025 award received over 400 substantiated applications from applicants from 34 countries and regions.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Wu Hequan, chairman of the award evaluation committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that against the backdrop of the accelerating new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, innovation has become the main driving force, stimulating the emergence of new industries, models and drivers, and promoting social progress.
He noted that by creating a high-level platform for international exchanges and uniting global wisdom for innovative development, the WIC Prize continues to uncover and showcase the world's leading scientific and technological achievements, promote technological development for the common good, and contribute to the creation of a digital, intelligent world characterized by openness and inclusiveness.
Established in 2023, the award aims to recognize the most advanced achievements of the year in the internet sector and promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of internet technologies.
As a reminder, the award ceremony took place as part of the 2025 Wuzhen Summit of the World Internet Conference, which officially opens in Wuzhen on Friday and runs until Sunday. -0-
