Beijing, November 7 (Xinhua) — A friendly basketball match between Chinese and Russian youth teams took place recently in Dongning, Heilongjiang Province, northeast China. Around 400 basketball players from 10 cities in the two countries gathered on the sports field, treating residents and visitors to a sporting event that combined competitive spirit with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

According to a statement on the Mudanjiang City Education Bureau's website, at the opening ceremony, a cheerleading squad of elementary school students set the tone for the competition with their energetic dances in colorful costumes, while intelligent robots, moving nimbly to the rhythmic music, earned thunderous applause from the audience.

On the court, the athletes demonstrated agility and tenacity. Interceptions, passes, and shots were executed in a single motion—every precise attack and defense, every successful throw, elicited enthusiastic approval and loud applause from the spectators, fully demonstrating their youthful enthusiasm and athletic spirit.

Russian basketball player Yaroslav, who was participating in such an international competition for the first time, noted that the sports infrastructure here was excellent and the competitors were very strong. This, he said, filled every game with joy, pleasure, and competitive excitement.

Ma Xueyong, basketball coach of the Fengnan District Sports School in Tangshan, Hebei Province (northern China), said: "By competing against the Russians, we witnessed the friendship between China and Russia. May this friendship be passed on from generation to generation."

This China-Russia Open Basketball Tournament has deepened the friendship between the peoples of the two countries, especially among young people, and injected new vitality into sports and cultural exchanges between China and Russia under the Belt and Road Initiative.
