BELEM, Brazil, November 7 (Xinhua) — Regardless of changes in the international situation, China will firmly adhere to genuine multilateralism and continue to fully support the central status and role of the United Nations in international affairs, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said on Thursday.
Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30) in Belém, Brazil, as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Ding Xuexiang pointed out that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN, and China's cooperation with the UN continues to strengthen.
He said China will promote dialogue and cooperation between countries and make greater contributions to world peace and development.
China is committed to pursuing high-quality, green, and low-carbon development, Ding Xuexiang said, noting that through practical measures, China is continuously improving its own green development while providing high-quality low-carbon products and services to other countries, thereby supporting the global transition to green socio-economic growth.
Ding Xuexiang emphasized that COP30 is the first such conference since global climate governance moved from rule-making to comprehensive implementation.
The Vice Premier said that China expects to strengthen communication and cooperation with all parties to ensure the success of the conference, send a positive signal of its unwavering commitment to upholding multilateralism, strengthen international trust, and jointly promote the construction of a beautiful world where humanity and nature coexist harmoniously.
A. Guterres, for his part, expressed gratitude to China for its consistent support of the UN's activities and praised China's achievements in the field of green development, noting that China is fulfilling its commitments to respond to climate change and taking practical actions that go far beyond the country's promises.
Calling China not only a key leader in global climate governance but also an important pillar of world peace and multilateralism, A. Guterres stated that the UN highly values and supports the Global Governance Initiative put forward by Xi Jinping, which is of great significance for improving and reforming the current global governance system.
The head of the world organization expressed his readiness to further strengthen cooperation with China. –0–
