UN, November 7 (Xinhua) — China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang on Thursday refuted baseless U.S. accusations against China's climate policy.

At a UN Security Council meeting on climate and security, the US envoy delivered a veiled attack on China, accusing it of gaining unfair economic advantages by undermining its economic competitors and calling on UN member states to follow the US example.

In response to the accusations, Geng Shuang said China, a country with a population of 1.4 billion and the world's second-largest gross domestic product, maintains an annual contribution to global economic growth of around 30 percent, while its per capita emissions are not among the highest in the world.

He added that China is recognized by the international community as one of the countries with the strongest will, the most decisive actions, and the most outstanding results in fulfilling its emission reduction commitments. "It is certainly a country that is actively participating in the global fight against climate change," Geng Shuang stated.
