URUMQI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) — The 12th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum was held in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Thursday. Experts, scholars and representatives of various circles from China and Central Asian countries discussed how to promote high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative under the current circumstances.
The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative is currently in a high-quality development stage. Forum participants noted that China and the Central Asian countries are continuously deepening practical cooperation, improving the structure of mutual trade, facilitating the introduction of new business models, and unlocking market potential. A period of favorable opportunities has now arrived for enhancing the level and quality of Chinese-Central Asian trade and economic cooperation.
In recent years, Xinjiang has become increasingly attractive to foreign entrepreneurs, including investors from Central Asian countries. To date, more than 370 enterprises have been established in Xinjiang with investments from Central Asia, and both sides have broad prospects for further cooperation.
Xin Tao, head of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's Commerce Department, noted that Xinjiang will focus on creating a new architecture of connectivity, expanding new space for trade and economic cooperation, and cultivating new drivers for industrial integration, so that trade and economic cooperation between Xinjiang and Central Asian countries will yield more mutually beneficial results.
Representatives of Central Asian countries expressed hope that the region's states and China will continue to strengthen the interconnectedness of transport infrastructure, expand cooperation in energy, finance, agriculture, and other areas, and strengthen humanitarian exchanges.
