Moscow, November 7 (Xinhua) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday approved the idea of completely banning the sale of vaping products in the country during a visit to an adaptive sports demonstration and educational center in Samara.

Ekaterina Leshchinskaya, head of the public movement "Healthy Fatherland," asked the president to "order a complete ban on vaping" in Russia. Putin nodded in response.

As State Duma Deputy Speaker Sholban Kara-ool reported to RIA Novosti, deputies were scheduled to begin work on a bill to completely ban vaping in Russia during the fall session.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin later noted that the absolute majority of deputies support a complete ban on the sale of vapes and related e-liquids, and called the measures already taken to combat them half-hearted. He recalled that 265,000 people participated in a survey he conducted on this topic, of which 74 percent supported the ban.

The Union of Enterprises in the Nicotine-Containing Products Industry (SPINI) estimates the total turnover of the electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) market in Russia by the end of 2024 at 220-240 billion rubles. –0–
