A tunnel boring machine (TBM) has completed a section under the Moskva River on the Biryulevskaya metro line under construction. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.

"The excavation of the right-hand transfer tunnel, over 1,600 meters long, between the Ostrov Mechty and Klenovy Bulvar stations under construction on the Biryulevskaya Line, began this summer. A six-meter-high shield, "Elena," is operating on this section. The excavation is taking place in challenging hydrogeological conditions—in mixed, water-saturated soils. The most challenging section is a 210-meter stretch under the Moskva River. To prevent the risk of flooding and tunnel collapse, specialists carried out meticulous preparatory work: they surveyed the area and designed the work," noted Vladimir Efimov.

The "Elena" tunnel boring machine is equipped with a vacuum block layer and a range of additional removable and built-in equipment. This allows it to work in both complex, unstable, water-saturated soils and rock formations. This machine is operated by 35 people per shift.

The TBM has already covered more than 715 linear meters between the Ostrov Mechty and Klenovy Bulvar stations. A scheduled maintenance stop is planned at the shield to check its functionality and replace the cutting tool. After the excavation work at the Klenovy Bulvar station is completed, the TBM will be dismantled, serviced, and transported to the ZIL station under construction on the Biryulevskaya Line. From there, it will begin tunneling to Ostrov Mechty station, said Maxim Gaman, General Director of Mosinzhproekt.

At the same time, specialists are preparing to begin excavating the left-hand connecting tunnel on this section of the Biryulevskaya metro line. At the direction of the Moscow Mayor, special attention is being paid to the quality and safety of construction of technically complex metro projects.

The construction of the connecting tunnels on the Biryulevskaya Line is being supervised by the State Construction Supervision Committee, the agency's chairman clarified. Anton Slobodchikov.

"Inspectors have already conducted the first on-site inspection of the construction site, during which they assessed the compliance of the completed work and the materials used with the design documentation. The next on-site visit is scheduled for November of this year," he added.

The Biryulevskaya Line will run from the former ZIL industrial zone to the Biryulyovo Zapadnoye and Biryulyovo Vostochnoye districts. It will be 22.2 kilometers long and will have 10 stations. The Biryulevskaya Line will provide connections to the Moscow Central Circle, Troitskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya, and Big Circle metro lines, as well as trains on the Paveletsky line of the Moscow Railway. Sergei Sobyanin previously ordered the construction to be expedited. Biryulevskaya line.

Its opening will improve transportation services for residents of the Danilovsky, Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki, Pechatniki, Moskvorechye-Saburovo, Tsaritsyno, Biryulevo Vostochnoye and Biryulevo Zapadnoye districts.

The Mayor of Moscow has revealed what the new Klenovy Bulvar station will look like.

Mosinzhproekt is the general designer and general contractor for the construction of new Moscow metro lines and stations. Since 2011, the holding company has contributed to the construction and reconstruction of 84 metro stations and over 180 kilometers of lines.
