Beijing, November 5 (Xinhua) — Individuals who persistently engage in separatist activities aimed at achieving "Taiwan independence," regardless of their location, will be subject to appropriate penalties, and their legal accountability will be for life, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, announced on Wednesday.
At a press conference, Zhang Han said the investigation launched by mainland Chinese police against Taiwanese separatist Shen Boyang is a legitimate and justified step to combat separatism and protect national unity.
Commenting on Taiwan's claims regarding jurisdiction in this case, the official representative emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and that activities aimed at achieving "Taiwan independence" constitute a criminal act of separatism and national treason.
