NEW YORK, November 5 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed Tuesday in the crash of a cargo plane near Louisville International Airport in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced this in an interview with local media on Wednesday morning, warning that the death toll could rise.

He also notified that an investigation was underway.

Earlier, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported on social media that, according to preliminary reports, at least seven people were killed and 11 were injured.

According to the airport's website, passenger flights to and from Louisville are resuming.
