SHANGHAI, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday reiterated that the country will continue to pursue high-quality development and steadily advance high-level opening-up, making new contributions to the global economy.
Li Qiang made the remarks while delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai.
China will confidently expand opening-up at the institutional level and promote comprehensive pilot programs to accelerate the opening-up of the service industry, Li Qiang said, adding that a more modernized China will undoubtedly bring more stability and positive energy to the world.
This year, CIIE set a record for the number of participating enterprises, fully demonstrating the vibrant vitality of China's super-scale market.
Noting that some unilateral and protectionist actions have seriously affected the international economic and trade order and undermined the global economy at present, Li Qiang called for upholding equality and mutual benefit, strengthening the foundation of legitimate common interests, and ensuring fairness in international relations.
Li Qiang also called for advancing global governance reform and optimizing international trade and economic rules.
China is willing to work with all parties to implement the Global Governance Initiative in the global trade and economic field and improve the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, Li Qiang said.
"The CPC Central Committee's Proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development," which were adopted at the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, have brought additional clarity to China's socio-economic development in the near future, Li Qiang noted.
The opening ceremony of the 8th CIIE was attended by approximately 1,500 people, including representatives of government agencies, the business community, and academia from 155 countries and regions, as well as international organizations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, leaders of foreign countries and heads of international organizations praised the CIIE's important role in promoting openness and cooperation and accelerating global economic growth.
They expressed their willingness to intensify cooperation with China in trade, connectivity, innovation, green development and other areas to ensure free and fair trade and jointly promote development and prosperity. -0-
