Montevideo, November 5 (Xinhua) — China is willing to work with Uruguay to develop the traditional China-Uruguay friendship, continuously enrich the content of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and make greater contributions to global peace and development under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state. This was stated by Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, during a meeting with Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi on Tuesday during his visit to the country.
Ding Xuexiang first conveyed to his interlocutor warm greetings and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping, noting that Uruguay is a good friend and partner of China.
According to him, the two sides should continue to strengthen political mutual trust, promote friendly exchanges between the governments, political parties, legislative bodies and local authorities of the two countries, strengthen the exchange of experience in public administration, and enhance the positive dynamics of the development of bilateral relations.
Ding Xuexiang stressed the need to further expand business cooperation, strengthen collaboration in areas such as economics and trade, finance, agriculture and animal husbandry, and infrastructure construction within the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and accelerate the creation of new growth areas in information technology, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy.
He called for deepening humanitarian and cultural exchanges, expanding cooperation in education, sports, think tanks, youth and regions to strengthen mutual understanding and consolidate the foundation of public support.
In turn, Y. Orsi asked Ding Xuexiang to convey his sincere greetings to Xi Jinping, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and China, the friendship between the two peoples has strengthened and bilateral relations continue to develop.
“The people of Uruguay and all sectors of society look forward to further strengthening cooperation with China under the Belt and Road Initiative and raising the Uruguayan-China comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level,” he said, adding that Uruguay agrees with and welcomes the basic concepts and initiatives put forward by Xi Jinping, and is willing to strengthen contacts and cooperation with China to maintain a free and open international trading system and multilateralism.
Following the meeting, Ding Xuexiang and Ya Orsi attended the signing of documents on economic and technological cooperation, as well as cooperation between the two countries in the customs sphere. –0–
