BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — China on Wednesday reiterated its protest over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent meeting with representatives of the Chinese region of Taiwan, calling on Japan to reflect on its historical guilt and strictly adhere to the one-China principle.
“There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of Chinese territory,” Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, said at a press conference in response to a media question.
Zhang Han noted that Japan's actions grossly violated the one-China principle, the spirit of the Four Sino-Japanese Political Documents, and the basic norms of international relations, sending a serious wrong signal to separatists advocating for "Taiwan independence."
“We express our strong protest in this regard,” she emphasized.
On October 31 and November 1, S. Takaichi posted photos and comments on social media about her meeting and communication with representatives of the Chinese region of Taiwan on the sidelines of the informal meeting of the leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. –0–
