Washington, November 5 (Xinhua) — Two men were killed on Tuesday in the latest U.S. military strike on a suspected drug-smuggling vessel in international waters in the Eastern Pacific, Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on social media.

"Today, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of Defense launched a lethal kinetic strike against a vessel operated by a designated terrorist organization," he wrote in a post, alleging the vessel was carrying narcotics.

"No American service members were injured in the strike, and two 'narcoterrorists' on board the vessel were killed," he added.

P. Hegseth did not provide any evidence.

Since September 2, the US military has sunk 17 ships in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, claiming at least 66 lives lost.

The Trump administration also expanded the US military presence in the Caribbean since August. The current US military buildup in the Caribbean is the largest in the region in more than 30 years.

On Friday, Donald Trump said he had not yet decided whether the United States would launch ground strikes on Venezuelan territory, denying media reports that his administration plans to attack the country's military facilities.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has repeatedly condemned Washington's actions as an attempt to overthrow his government and expand US military influence in Latin America. Colombian President Gustavo Petro last month accused the US government of "assassinating" drug trafficking suspects at sea.
