Kabul, November 4 (Xinhua) — A 6.3-magnitude earthquake in northern Afghanistan killed 24 people and injured more than 630, mostly minor, the country's National Disaster Management Authority reported on Monday.
The earthquake's epicenter was in the Khulm region, at a depth of 28 kilometers. The tremors affected the provinces of Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e Pul, Kunduz, and Jowzjan.
The Afghan government has launched a rescue operation. Officials in Badakhshan Province reported that the earthquake damaged approximately 800 homes. Additionally, the iconic 12th-century Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, a renowned religious and cultural landmark in northern Afghanistan, partially collapsed.
