Beijing, November 4 (Xinhua) — Strengthening cohesion and cooperation with Africa remains a priority for China's foreign policy, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the announcement in Beijing during a meeting with the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the African Union (AU) to China, Alhaji Mohamed Sarjo Bah.

Noting that the 21st century should be a century of accelerated development and growth for both China and Africa, Wang Yi stressed that China highly values Africa's support for the global initiatives it has put forward.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China is ready to work with Africa to implement the outcomes of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and implement measures to introduce zero tariffs on 100 percent of goods from all African countries with diplomatic relations with China. China also hopes to work with African countries to advance modernization and build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era, the Chinese diplomat added.

A. M. Sarjo Bah, for his part, stated that the AU supports China's vision of a community with a shared future for humanity, as well as a number of major initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative. He added that the AU is ready to promote new fruitful results in bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the people of the African continent.
