Bishkek, November 3 (Xinhua) — The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a global public good in the import sector and has become a gateway to the world's largest consumer market, Tolonbek Abdyrov, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and Vice-Rector of the International Higher School of Medicine in the Kyrgyz Republic, told Xinhua.

The 8th CIIE will be held in Shanghai, China, from November 5 to 10 this year. T. Abdyrov praises the Expo's role in promoting the continuous improvement of the business environment and the win-win benefits of Chinese and foreign enterprises.

"The CIIE itself is essentially a global public good for imports," he noted, adding that China has sent a clear signal of openness and backed this up with a specific operational "machine"—a meeting calendar, comprehensive services for participants, and regulatory and customs support—all of which helps to significantly reduce information and transaction costs for foreign suppliers.

According to statistics from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the exhibition space for the 8th CIIE exceeds 367,000 square meters, and the number of exhibiting companies at the upcoming Expo has increased by more than 600 compared to 3,496 at a similar event last year. "This speaks to the depth of the showcase. Meanwhile, China's macroeconomic backdrop remains favorable," the expert believes, stating that, according to positive forecasts from international institutions, the country will continue to act as an anchor for global demand.

T. Abdyrov believes that the CIIE is an excellent platform for showcasing new products. "Previous expos showcased numerous new products, technologies, and services from around the world, covering sectors such as artificial intelligence, new materials, autonomous systems, and energy transition technologies," he said. "The CIIE has become a gateway to the largest consumer market."

China is currently continuously promoting high-quality opening up to the outside world, which deeply impressed T. Abdyrov. He noted that China has taken a number of measures in this area, including reducing the negative list for foreign investment, completely lifting restrictions on foreign investment in manufacturing, and accelerating the expansion of openness in the service sector.

"Amid weak global growth, China has placed its bets on 'high-quality openness'—not on slogans, but on rules that actually make market entry cheaper," the Kyrgyz economist emphasized.

In his view, China's inclusiveness is demonstrated by the country's not only lowering barriers but also helping its partners build their own manufacturing base, as demonstrated by Chinese initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative.

"For countries around the world, particularly those in the Global South, this means access to markets and capital, as well as the transfer of standards and technologies to existing projects. This is how raw materials exports are gradually transforming into exports with greater added value," said T. Abdyrov, adding that the aforementioned Chinese initiatives and the CIIE constitute an integrated system that is supporting the global economic recovery.

This year, Kyrgyzstan will be participating in the CIIE for the first time. According to T. Abdyrov, Kyrgyzstan's debut at the Expo is timely. "The national pavilion is not just a beautiful stand, but a 'corridor of trust' for the 'Made in Kyrgyzstan' brand," the expert said, asserting that in practice, demand for Kyrgyz products can be seen. –0–
