DAR ES SALAAM, November 3 (Xinhua) — Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn in as president for a new five-year term on Monday after winning 97.66 percent of the vote in the general election.

S. Suluhu Hassan, representing the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (Revolutionary Party), was sworn in by Chief Justice George Masaju during a ceremony held at the Chamwino State House in the capital, Dodoma. Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi joined her in the swearing-in ceremony.

Last week's elections were marred by protests in several regions of the country, including Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Songwe, and Arusha. Street rallies, attended primarily by young people, called for electoral reform and the unconditional release of imprisoned opposition leaders.
