Beijing, November 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping's participation in more than a dozen bilateral and multilateral events during the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting and his state visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) have set the direction for Asia-Pacific cooperation, demonstrated the responsibility of a major power, and strengthened good-neighborly and friendly relations, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a briefing for journalists dedicated to Xi Jinping's trip.

The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to protect the multilateral trading system, create an open economic environment in the region, maintain stability and the smooth functioning of production and supply chains, advance the digitalization and greening of trade, and promote accessible and inclusive development.

Xi Jinping also announced that Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, will host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting next November. He said China hopes to use the event to work with all parties to build an Asia-Pacific community.

Furthermore, Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held an in-depth exchange of views in Busan on key issues related to China-US relations, as well as global peace and development. During the meeting, the Chinese President noted that the two countries are fully capable of helping each other succeed and can prosper together.

Wang Yi stated that the meeting between the leaders of China and the United States in Busan marks a historic moment in bilateral relations.

The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that during the trip, Xi Jinping also made his first state visit to the Republic of Korea in 11 years, during which he held an in-depth exchange of views with President Li Zhe-meng in a friendly atmosphere. The two sides reached a number of important cooperation agreements, reaffirming their mutual commitment to further developing the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Facts show that China and South Korea should pursue common development based on mutual respect and cooperate for mutual benefit, putting aside differences, Wang Yi said.

According to him, the current visit contributed to practical cooperation between China and the Republic of Korea. The parties agreed to accelerate the second phase of negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement, establish closer coordination within multilateral forums, support multilateralism, and protect free trade.

Wang Yi said that during the trip, Xi Jinping also used various formats, including bilateral talks, meetings, public and written speeches, to communicate the spirit of the decisions of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

As Xi Jinping emphasized, the Chinese economy is like an ocean, it will provide ever-increasing opportunities for the development of the global business community, and therefore investing in China means investing in the future.

The Chinese Foreign Minister added that, in addition to this, during his trip, Xi Jinping met with the leaders of Canada and Thailand and held friendly discussions with representatives of other APEC economies in order to strengthen mutual trust, build consensus, and stimulate cooperation. –0–
