ISTANBUL, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — A Turkish court on Friday sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment for the deadly ski resort hotel fire that killed 78 people in the northwestern province of Bolu in January.

Thirty-two defendants were involved in the trial. The defendants denied the charges and are expected to appeal the verdict.

A fire broke out on January 21 at the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel during the winter school holidays. The tragedy killed 78 people, including 34 children, and injured 137 others.
