UN, Oct. 31 /Xinhua/ — The UN Security Council on Friday extended the mandate of the EU peacekeeping force in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for another 12 months.
The 15-member UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2795, which extends the mandate of the EU peacekeeping operation Althea /EUFOR ALTHEA/ and the NATO presence in BiH for an additional period of 12 months, starting from the date of adoption of this document.
The EU's Operation Althea in BiH is the successor to the NATO-led stabilisation force whose mission is to ensure continued compliance with the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the war that took place in BiH between 1992 and 1995.
The resolution authorizes UN member states to take, upon request, all necessary measures to protect the Althea force or the NATO presence, respectively, and to assist both organizations in fulfilling their mandates. –0–
