Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, November 1 (Xinhua) — President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Jae-myung on Saturday stressed that peace is the fundamental basis for building a sustainable future.
"Only by ensuring peace can we enhance connectivity, fully unleash innovation, and share shared prosperity," Lee Jae-myung said in his closing remarks at the 2nd Session of the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting.
The President emphasized that peace on the Korean Peninsula will not only contribute to stability in Northeast Asia, but also serve as a path to common prosperity for the entire Asia-Pacific region through cooperation and mutual benefit.
According to him, military confrontation, tension, and nuclear issues are limiting stability and cooperation not only on the Korean Peninsula but throughout the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized that the Republic of Korea adheres to the principle of resolving problems through dialogue and strives to usher in a new era of peaceful coexistence and joint development on the Korean Peninsula.
Lee Jae-myung added that the ROK government has already taken proactive measures to reduce military tensions and restore mutual trust (with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea), and also promised to continue implementing more active and promising initiatives to maintain peace. –0–
