KUALA LUMPUR, November 1 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun attended and delivered a speech at the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Dialogue Partners (ADP) Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADM Plus) in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
In his speech, Dong Jun noted that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the "CMEA Plus" mechanism. As the destinies of the region's countries become increasingly interconnected, the desire for peace and development intensifies, yet new threats and challenges continue to emerge.
The Chinese Minister of Defense pointed out that the Global Governance Initiative offers a Chinese solution to respond to global changes and challenges and is consistent with the basic principles of the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
Dong Jun said that all countries should adhere to the fundamental aspiration of peace and cooperation, seek common ground while maintaining differences, work hand in hand for common development, and share the fruits of peace.
China and ASEAN countries are neighbors bound by common interests, and China is ready to play a constructive role in ensuring peace and tranquility in the region, the minister emphasized. He added that China supports ASEAN's central role in the regional architecture and is ready to share responsibility with regional countries for maintaining regional peace, resolving differences through dialogue and consultation, enhancing open cooperation, and remaining a reliable stabilizing force.
The minister added that China will continue to contribute to the development of security cooperation under the "CMAO Plus" mechanism, build a closer community of shared future between China and ASEAN, and jointly safeguard international and regional peace and stability.
On Saturday, Dong Jun also held talks with the heads of the defense ministries of the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Australia. –0–
