Tehran, November 1 (Xinhua) – Tehran is not interested in direct talks with Washington, but an agreement could be reached through indirect negotiations, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
In an interview with Qatar's Al Jazeera television channel published on Saturday, the diplomat expressed Iran's readiness to hold talks to address concerns over the country's nuclear program.
“We have no desire to engage in direct negotiations with Washington, but we can reach an agreement through indirect negotiations,” he noted.
Once again emphasizing the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program, A. Araghchi pointed out that uranium enrichment in Iran cannot be stopped, and that “what cannot be achieved by war cannot be achieved by politics.”
According to him, stockpiles of about 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60% remain buried under the rubble of bombed Iranian nuclear facilities and have not been transported to another location.
“We suffered major losses at our nuclear facilities, both in terms of structures and equipment, but our technology remained intact,” A. Araghchi clarified, referring to the American bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on June 22 of this year.
Iran and the United States held five rounds of indirect talks on Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of American sanctions before Israel launched surprise air strikes on several areas of the Islamic Republic in June. American forces later joined the bombing.
In recent months, the United States has repeatedly called on Iran to cease uranium enrichment on its soil and dismantle its missile program. Iran has rejected these demands, declaring both issues non-negotiable.
