Minsk, November 1 (Xinhua) — The annual Chinese Ambassador's Award ceremony took place in Belarus on Friday. The event took place at the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages.

The award is presented annually to students of secondary schools and universities to support their learning of the Chinese language and understanding of Chinese culture. Awards were also given to exemplary Belarusian educational institutions in the field of Chinese language teaching and to Chinese language teachers who have achieved outstanding teaching success. This year marks the ninth time the awards have been presented.

As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan noted during the ceremony, Belarusian students view the Chinese language as a window into China and a connection with the world. At the same time, tens of thousands of Chinese students go to study in Belarus. "Such interaction and humanitarian exchange significantly contribute to mutual understanding and rapprochement between peoples. This award is a confirmation of your efforts and an expression of hope for the mission entrusted to you in the future," the ambassador emphasized.

In turn, Vladimir Dolzhenkov, Deputy Minister of Education of Belarus, noted that over 5,500 students in general secondary and higher education institutions in Belarus are studying Chinese as a subject this academic year. "Belarus places great importance on popularizing, supporting, and expanding opportunities for learning Chinese," Dolzhenkov stated.

Natalia Lapteva, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages, expressed the opinion that the development of a national school for teaching Chinese language and culture is seen in Belarus as one of the most important conditions for the further successful advancement of cooperation between the two countries. “The real achievements of schoolchildren, students, listeners, teachers, and educational institutions are our common contribution to the formation of a community of shared destiny for Belarus and China,” N. Lapteva concluded. –0–
