Beijing, October 31 (Xinhua) — A methodological seminar on promoting the Russian language in China was held at the Russian Cultural Center (RCC) in Beijing on Wednesday, the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing reported on its public account on the Chinese social media platform WeChat.
Igor Pozdnyakov, Education Counselor at the Russian Embassy in China and representative of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, delivered a welcoming speech and a report on Russian-Chinese cooperation in education. He noted that the number of visa applications from Chinese citizens for educational trips to Russia in 2025 increased by 24 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
Tatyana Urzhumtseva, head of the RCC in Beijing, also addressed the participants, discussing the importance and nuances of building business contacts with Chinese partners for the implementation of joint educational projects.
Participants at the seminar focused on the use of high technology in education, ways to promote Russian education in China, and the selection process for Chinese citizens to study in Russia under the Russian government's quota.
Liu Hong, Chairman of the Russian Language Teaching Commission of the Chinese Ministry of Education and Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning Normal University, and Alexander Bochkarev, Professor at Dalian University of Foreign Studies, discussed the latest trends and key challenges in teaching Russian as a foreign language in Chinese universities.
The seminar not only served as a platform for promoting Russian higher education, exchanging opinions and experiences, and building business contacts and connections for participants, but also as a useful and important step in creating joint projects between the two countries in the educational sphere.
