Minsk, October 31 (Xinhua) — The 31st Minsk International Film Festival "Listopad" opened in Belarus on Friday. The opening ceremony took place at the Palace of the Republic. This year's festival is held under the slogan "History That Changes Perspectives."
Over 3,600 applications from 120 countries were submitted for the festival, and 157 films from 41 countries were selected. Participants from China, Russia, India, Iran, and Pakistan will present their work. For the first time this year, representatives from Vietnam and the Philippines attended the festival.
In his congratulatory address to guests, participants, and organizers of the international film festival, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted that the event is a landmark, large-scale event, a true celebration of kindness and spirituality, and a place for friendly gatherings where beauty and high art reign.
"The diverse festival programs and creative projects open up broad opportunities for cultural dialogue between countries, unite filmmakers and enthusiasts, and inspire the search for new ideas and images," Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Natalia Petkevich said during the opening ceremony.
"Listopad" will run until November 7th. –0–
