Istanbul, October 30 (Xinhua) — The 18th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum opened at the Ciragan Palace in Istanbul on Thursday.

The main theme of this year's forum is "New Energy for New Economic Realities." Discussions on the business program will focus on finding innovative solutions in energy, industry, finance, transportation, digital technologies, agriculture, and the social sphere.

This year's forum is attended by prominent politicians, heads of leading companies, scientists, and experts from around the world. The event brings together over a thousand participants from more than 30 countries and regions. The forum runs until Friday. It is organized by the non-profit association "Understand Eurasia."

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the global economy is facing new challenges, and uncertainty is rising sharply. He emphasized that Turkey, with its unique geographical advantages, plays a special role in regional and global cooperation. "Turkey is ready to build connections across continents, industries, traditional and new energy systems… and continue to play a constructive role in global economic development," he noted.

"Certain global events, in particular the recent SCO summit in Tianjin, which followed last year's BRICS summit in Kazan, clearly demonstrated that the Global South, or, as it is sometimes called, the global majority, is gaining significant influence and making independent decisions," said Antonio Fallico, president of the Connoisseur Eurasia Association. According to him, the Global South is seeking new mechanisms for interaction, coordination, and solutions to the most pressing issues of our time.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a greeting to the forum's participants and guests. He said the forum has earned well-deserved authority over the past years. "The topic of this meeting—'New Energy for New Economic Realities'—is highly relevant. We will consider prospects for expanding cooperation in energy and the digital economy, investment and scientific and technological innovation, transport and logistics," the Russian president said.
