Jiuquan, October 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese astronauts Zhang Lu, Wu Fei, and Zhang Hongzhang will carry out the Shenzhou-21 manned space mission. Zhang Lu will serve as the crew commander. The China Manned Space Administration (CMSA) announced this at a press conference on Thursday.

The Shenzhou-21 manned spacecraft will be launched at 11:44 p.m. Beijing time on Friday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, CMSA spokesman Zhang Jingbo said.

The three astronauts – a space pilot, a flight engineer and a payload specialist respectively – represent the three types of Chinese astronauts serving, he added.

Zhang Lu was a member of the Shenzhou-15 mission crew. Wu Fei and Zhang Hongzhang, from the third group of Chinese astronauts, will be making their first spaceflight.

Before being selected as an astronaut for the orbital mission, Wu Fei worked as an engineer at the China Academy of Space Technology under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and Zhang Hongzhang was a research fellow at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. -0-
