BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) — Peaceful reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will create enormous opportunities for Taiwan's social and economic development and bring tangible benefits to the Taiwan compatriots, Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday.
After reunification, Taiwan will be able to inject new impetus into its own economy by drawing on the advantages of the mainland's vast market and its economies of scale, and by tapping into its strengths in science and technology and human resources, Peng Qing'en said.
He made the statement at a press conference in response to a question about how peaceful reunification would bring the greatest benefits to compatriots on both sides of the Strait and the Chinese nation as a whole.
