Shenzhen, October 29 (Xinhua) — Cosmonauts and academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Russian Academy of Sciences recently participated in the 4th Knowledge, Science, and Culture Festival of the Moscow State University-Beijing Institute of Technology (MSU-BIT) in Shenzhen, southern China's Guangdong Province. The university is the first jointly established university by China and Russia. The guests were introduced to the "mysterious world" of science, giving new impetus to deepening Chinese-Russian cooperation in education, science, technology, and cultural exchanges.

The appearance of Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and his Belarusian colleague Marina Vasilevskaya in blue spacesuits at the podium provoked thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the audience.

"What's it like to be in space?" "How do you sleep in space?" "What does it take to become an astronaut, and what are the selection criteria?" The audience eagerly raised their hands to ask questions. The cosmonauts' vibrant and humorous answers instantly bridged the gap between space science and the public. After the meeting, attendees lined up to get autographs from the two cosmonauts.

The 4th MSU-BPI Shenzhen Knowledge, Science, and Culture Festival, themed "Your Quantum Universe," kicked off on September 13 and will run for nearly two months. Distinguished guests have already participated, including academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as renowned Russian and international experts and scientists.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and Moscow State University Rector Viktor Sadovnichy sent video greetings to the festival's open week participants.

Sergey Ivanchenko, First Vice-Rector and Chairman of the Academic Council of MSU-BPI Shenzhen, stated in his speech that the festival's theme, "Your Quantum Universe," is closely linked to such cutting-edge areas of technological cooperation between China and Russia as the digital economy and artificial intelligence. Using the festival's platform for knowledge, science, and culture, MSU-BPI Shenzhen has conducted fruitful research in the areas of joint research, youth interaction, and cultural exchange.

The 4th MSU-BPI Shenzhen Knowledge, Science, and Culture Festival featured over 200 events, including seminars, academic lectures, and science-related artistic performances. Over 200,000 people participated in both online and offline formats.

This not only contributed to the creation of a vibrant atmosphere for enhancing the scientific literacy of the population, but also gave new impetus to the deepening of Sino-Russian cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology, as well as cultural exchanges. -0-
