Almaty, October 29 (Xinhua) — Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with U.S. Special Representative for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gore and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, the Kazakh presidential press service reported on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the prospects for developing the Kazakh-American expanded strategic partnership were discussed in the context of the upcoming Central Asia USA summit /C5 1/ in Washington, scheduled for November 6.
K.-Zh. Tokayev expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the invitation to participate in the C5 summit. He expressed confidence that the upcoming summit will be productive in identifying key priorities for long-term cooperation.
The President of Kazakhstan emphasized the growing role of Central Asia in global processes. He said the countries of the region are demonstrating unprecedented unity and commitment to good-neighborly relations and shared progress.
In turn, S. Gore reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Central Asian region in US foreign policy. He believed the upcoming meeting in Washington would take bilateral cooperation to a new level.
The interlocutors discussed the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships in energy, critical minerals, digitalization, transport and logistics, and exchanged views on pressing issues on the regional and international agenda.
