BEIJING, October 29 (Xinhua) — As of the end of September this year, the cumulative transaction volume using the digital yuan in China exceeded 14.2 trillion yuan (about 2 trillion U.S. dollars). Thus, the digital yuan ecosystem has already been preliminarily formed, the People's Bank of China (the central bank) reported.

The digital yuan has been piloted in 26 locations across 17 provincial-level administrative units in China, covering sectors such as wholesale and retail trade, public services, and others.

As of the end of last month, a total of 3.32 billion transactions had been processed, and 225 million personal wallets for the digital RMB had been created on the digital RMB app.

China's central bank has launched the Digital Yuan International Operation Center in Shanghai and the Digital Yuan Operation Management Center in Beijing, which are respectively responsible for cross-border cooperation and use of the digital yuan, and the formation, operation and maintenance of the digital yuan system to promote its wider application, People's Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng said on Monday at the annual meeting of the Financial Street Forum 2025.

The digital yuan's "two-center" architecture was first revealed to the public with the launch of the Digital Yuan International Operations Center in Shanghai in September. -0-
