Vilnius, October 29 (Xinhua) — The Lithuanian government on Wednesday decided to close checkpoints on the border with Belarus for one month, with certain exceptions, the Baltic News Service reported.

The Lithuanian government has decided to completely close the Šalčininkai-Beniakoni checkpoint and restrict access through the Medininkai-Kamenny Log checkpoint.

The ban on passage through the second checkpoint does not apply to diplomats, diplomatic mail, holders of simplified transit documents, returning Lithuanian citizens and their family members.

Exceptions also apply to citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area and NATO and their family members, foreigners returning to Lithuania with a valid residence permit and foreigners with a humanitarian visa.

The restrictive measure will remain in effect until November 30, after which the Lithuanian government will consider extending it. –0–
