Kyiv, October 29 (Xinhua) — To successfully navigate the current heating season, Ukraine needs to import over 4 billion cubic meters of additional gas. This was stated on Tuesday by Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
He explained that the need for additional gas purchases abroad is due to losses in domestic production.
The head of Naftogaz added that Ukraine is considering several scenarios, including continued Russian attacks, the ability or lack of capacity to fully utilize underground gas storage facilities, and changes in domestic gas production volumes.
Separately, S. Koretsky noted that Ukraine will require approximately $1.9 billion to purchase 4 billion cubic meters of gas. A significant portion of these funds has already been secured.
According to Naftogaz, Russia has carried out eight strikes on Ukraine's civilian gas infrastructure since the beginning of October.
