KUALA LUMPUR, October 27 (Xinhua) — Relations between China and the European Union face both opportunities for development and challenges, and both sides must maintain the right course in developing their relations, strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust, and further implement the consensus reached. Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated this on Monday during a meeting with European Council President António Costa on the sidelines of the East Asia Cooperation Meeting.

He stated that China is willing to work with the EU to expand cooperation, promote optimized and balanced trade development, further open up to each other, and create new growth areas for cooperation in the green and digital sectors, as well as in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, industry, and supply chains, to achieve greater mutual benefits and win-win results.

He added that, based on the principles of equality and respect, China is ready to facilitate the resolution of trade and economic cooperation issues between China and the EU through dialogue and consultation, as well as on the basis of mutual understanding and compromise.

Li Qiang expressed hope that the EU will provide a fair, equal and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises operating in Europe, and that EU institutions will play a positive role in developing relations with China.
