The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation met with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Tinh.
On the sidelines of the 20th East Asia Summit in Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk held a working meeting with Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Tinh.
Alexey Overchuk stated that strengthening cooperation with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam—a long-standing friend and reliable partner of the Russian Federation—is a priority area for the development of Russia's foreign economic relations.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted the intensification of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation and the increased momentum of bilateral contacts. The year 2025 began with an official visit to Vietnam by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. In early September, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Tinh and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong in China.
Trade and economic ties between the two countries are steadily expanding. This is facilitated by the implementation of the Eurasian Economic Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which has doubled mutual trade volumes.
Alexey Overchuk and Pham Minh Tinh exchanged views on the progress of joint Russian-Vietnamese projects in energy, industry, and agriculture.
Joint efforts to strengthen transport and logistics connectivity between the macroregions of Northern Eurasia and Southeast Asia by launching new logistics routes, including maritime and land routes, were also discussed. The importance of the emerging railway transport corridor connecting Vietnam and Russia via the People's Republic of China and Mongolia was noted.
When discussing issues of multilateral cooperation, the growing role of integration associations in the Eurasian space and on a global scale was noted.
"Russia welcomes Vietnam's accession to BRICS as a partner state. We look forward to your active participation in the activities of this influential association," the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation emphasized.
Alexey Overchuk and Pham Minh Tinh agreed to continue contacts to further deepen Russian-Vietnamese cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres on a systemic basis.
