Singapore, October 25 (Xinhua) — China intends to work with Singapore to implement key global initiatives put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping to advance the development of the global order in a more just and rational direction. This was stated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang during talks with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Saturday.
Li Qiang said that as the multilateral trading system is currently under serious attack, China hopes to work with Singapore to strengthen ties and cooperation within the UN and other mechanisms, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and safeguard free trade and economic globalization.
Noting that Xi Jinping's meeting with Lawrence Wong in Beijing in June charted the course for the next stage of bilateral relations, Li Qiang expressed China's willingness to work with Singapore to follow the strategic guidance of the two leaders, uphold the original intentions of the two sides in establishing diplomatic relations, and develop traditional friendship.
The Chinese leader called on both sides to strengthen mutual political trust, expand practical cooperation, and steadily deepen bilateral ties to better serve the cause of modernization of the two countries and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability, and development.
Li Qiang reported that at the recently concluded 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, proposals for drafting the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) were reviewed and adopted, which ensured high-level design and strategic planning for China's socio-economic development for the next five years and beyond.
He clarified that China is willing to strengthen development synergies with Singapore, make full use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, maintain the healthy growth momentum of bilateral trade and investment, continue to strengthen and expand key cooperation projects such as the Suzhou Industrial Park in East China's Jiangsu Province and the Tianjin Eco-City in North China, deepen cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, green economy, artificial intelligence, new energy and biomedicine, and actively explore cooperation opportunities with third parties.
In addition, the Premier stated that China welcomes more Singaporean enterprises investing in China and hopes that the Singaporean side will continue to support Chinese enterprises operating in Singapore.
Li Qiang also called on the two sides to strengthen exchanges of experience on issues such as social security and employment promotion, make joint efforts for better development through mutual learning, and deepen cooperation in culture, tourism, education, media and youth exchanges to continuously strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
