Cairo, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Saturday stressed the need to maintain a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to maintain stability in the region.
During the telephone conversation, the ministers discussed preparations for the international conference on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gaza, which will be held in Cairo in November. Abdel Atty called on Turkey's active participation and support. He also noted the ongoing coordination between Egypt and Turkey to monitor the ceasefire, along with regional and international partners.
The ministers agreed that closer diplomatic cooperation would help strengthen security and advance the common interests of the two countries.
The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States, came into effect on October 10. Its first phase includes prisoner exchanges, humanitarian access to Gaza, and a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Despite the agreement, Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
