JINAN, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — A cargo ship sailed from Yantai Port in east China's Shandong Province to Tanzania's Tanga Port on Saturday, marking the opening of a new general cargo shipping route.

According to the port authority, this new route, which becomes Yantai's 29th international general cargo route, marks another step in building a global supply chain system.

The new route will help provide more efficient logistics options for East African countries. After arriving at the port of Tanga, cargo will be distributed and shipped to countries such as Uganda and Rwanda.

Yantai Port already has international shipping routes to Asia, Africa, America, and Europe. These routes handle over 200 types of cargo, including specialized equipment, construction machinery, and wind energy equipment.

In the first nine months of 2025, the volume of general cargo handled at Yantai Port reached 11.9 million tons, up 41.8 percent year-on-year and already exceeding the cumulative figure for last year. -0-
