"The Bishkek SCO Summit is planned to be held in early September 2026 in the Kyrgyz Republic," said Kyrgyzstan's Ambassador to China, Aktilek Musaeva, at an SCO briefing held on October 23 at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing, which focused on the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic's SCO chairmanship for 2025-2026.

At the SCO summit held in Tianjin in early September this year, China concluded its chairmanship, and the baton passed to Kyrgyzstan.

SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev addressed a press briefing and expressed confidence that Kyrgyzstan's SCO Presidency will continue to strengthen political trust among member states, provide new impetus for advancing trade and economic cooperation, enhancing access to transport and energy, fostering humanitarian and youth exchanges, and jointly promoting and implementing environmental protection initiatives. "The Kyrgyz side is capable of making a significant contribution to strengthening the SCO's focus, enhancing its effectiveness and implementing business projects, and expanding international cooperation," the Secretary-General said.

Aktilek Musaeva reiterated the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic's SCO chairmanship for 2025-2026, which were recommended at the Tianjin Summit:

First, ensuring long-term stability.

A Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime will be established in Bishkek at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan. Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan supports the resumption of the SCO–Afghanistan Contact Group and the development of a plan of practical measures to facilitate Afghanistan's socioeconomic recovery, thereby maintaining regional security.

Secondly, realizing the potential of economic cooperation.

Kyrgyzstan places particular emphasis on transport connectivity. Priorities include creating favorable conditions for international transport, simplifying border procedures, and developing logistics hubs and transport corridors between Central and South Asia, China, and the Middle East.

During Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship, the Republic intends to host, in addition to traditional meetings of heads of ministries and departments in the economic sphere, the SCO Business Forum, the SCO Business Forum, and the Forum of Heads of Regions of SCO Member States, said Aktilek Musaeva.

Thirdly, digitalization.

As part of its SCO Presidency, Kyrgyzstan intends to offer the Organization a future-oriented approach, making digital transformation a key priority for joint work.

Fourth, ecology and sustainable development.

As the Kyrgyz Ambassador to China stated, in 2022, Kyrgyzstan, with the support of all SCO member states, initiated the adoption of the "Five Years of Action for Sustainable Mountain Development" resolution by the UN General Assembly, and the final stage—the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek 25"—will be held in 2027.

Fifth, expansion of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

According to Aktilek Musaeva, during the Kyrgyz chairmanship, the pearl of Lake Issyk-Kul, Cholpon-Ata, will become the tourism and cultural capital of the SCO. A number of SCO events are planned to be held there.
