BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — Electricity consumption, a key barometer of China's economic activity, showed a steady increase in September this year, official data showed Thursday.

Overall, electricity consumption in September increased by 4.5 percent year-on-year to reach 888.6 billion kWh, the National Energy Administration of China reported.

In particular, electricity consumption in the primary and secondary sectors of the economy increased by 7.3 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively, compared to September 2024, while in the tertiary sector of the economy this figure increased by 6.3 percent.

Electricity consumption for domestic needs of urban and rural households reached 128.7 billion kWh in September, a drop of 2.6 percent year-on-year.

Between January and September 2025, the country's total electricity consumption increased by 4.6 percent to 7.77 trillion kWh. -0-
